Short Synopsis of the film:
Road To Austin, chronicles how Austin, Texas became the Live Music Capital of the World, dating from 1835 to present day. The film highlights early 1800s Austin, the psychedelic movement, Armadillo World Headquarters, and numerous other iconic moments that shaped the Texan and American musical culture of today. Using vintage photos, rare posters, and never before seen video footage, director Gary Fortin reveals how Austin developed its artistic reputation.
This feature length documentary builds to a climax as the storyline weaves its way towards the 2007 live all-star concert “The Road to Austin,” spearheaded by internationally acclaimed director and GRAMMY award winning producer Stephen Bruton. The panoply of celebrity headliners, including Kris Kristofferson, Bonnie Raitt, Delbert McClinton and many others, afforded Austin’s local artists an opportunity to have these legends accompany them during their performances and show why Austin deserves to proudly wear its title.
